We need a common sense approach to running Kansas. Managing finances has been my career since graduating from Kansas State.
We need to approach our budget problems with the confidence that there is a long term solution and a balance to what we need
and what we can afford. Kansans have traditionally managed their finances with the resolve to take care of themselves
and not depend on others for financial support. We need to have this same level of responsibility across our government.
In addition to managing our finances, we need to manage our resources. This includes an integrated energy policy.
All forms of energy production needs to be considered and implemented based on their economic viability and their total
impact on the environment.
Overall we need a respectful dialogue among all players on the public stage. We need to solicit everyone's ideas, listen,
consider possible solutions, and move forward. The state issues are not easy and no one has all the answers. When tough
choices have to be made, we need to try to come together rather than focus on differences.
